Back home with Mum-Ubin

Just got back from Ubin and cant wait to upload the pics taken on the DSLR. I went this morning with Mum, a lady who grew up in Ubin. One with fond memories of the island, no matter how comfortable life is now compared to then. Back then, she went about in bicycles and boats. No such thing as cars, vans.... Back then, she was a wild young kid who hang out with boys.

It just seems every object in Ubin has a story to tell behind them...

My mum looks thoughtfully at the sign which meant so much to her,

and yup, i took this opportunity to take lotsa pictures today on the newly purchased DSLR (co-owned with sister). Mum became my first model. It was the DSLR's first trip out and frankly, my first time using it, having only read the manual yesterday. Tho i did take quite a few off-focus shots, i'm still proud of my pics...
Rocks you dont really see much back in mainland

Surreal feeling going back to Ubin?

There she goes waving to me. For some absurb reasons, i like this shot of hers, it gives her a young, playing look as she wave, perhaps the ice-cream umbrella helps a little.

My first flower shot taken with DSLR.

Trying to take a self-shot with DSLR. Frankly, much harder to do when the camera is much bigger... haha, not too bad i'll say. We took along the compact camera too to take pictures when we want point and shoot, example when we were on the dirt tracks on our bikes but sigh, i cant upload that cos mum went out again with the camera in her bag...
I thought to myself, it would be great to be a mother like my mum. So free- spirited, so eager to explore. Along the way, i saw parents bringing kids to Chek Jawa as well, that's where we went by the way, we wanted to catch the starfish and corals but the tide timing din work well with us when we reached.
I think it's important to have kids be involved with nature as much as possible when they are younger. Places like the beach, the forest, the village, the zoo. I was so amused, i saw this little boy and his elder sister (prob 5-7 years old) fascinated with giant red ants which they saw on the trail.
I also chanced upon a young couple with 3 kids, the young family apparently was going trekking, and upon seeing the toilet near-by, the young dad said to the kids "Children, wash your hands, eat your muffins and then we can go play"... Very nice feeling to it.
I wanted to do a comparison between using the compact and the DSLR on an identical object, but seriously, to take out the lens fix it on and focus took too much trouble especially when one is cycling. It felt nice tho, just 2 of us, cycling in the woods. Mum sharing some stories of her younger days...
I would love to upload those picture taken on the compact ( took picture of a rubber seed, some nice orange flowers, mum cycling hehe, after all i'm more used to that. And i've still got lots lots to learn with the Dizzie.
A shot taken after the rain. A nice tranquil calm feeling as opposed to the scorching sun earlier on.
Shot taken on the way back home... Mum likes this photo. I liked it too. Maybe alit too bright, but very naturally taken.
Alrighty then, till i get the compact pics.. now it's time to bathe!
